Out-Of-Home Child Care Options
Finding appropriate child care is one of the most difficult task working parents are faced with. This problem is compounded when a child is mildly sick and cannot attend his/her regular day care program.
An out-of-home child care is often more reliable than an in home baby sitter and usually less expensive.
Some child care facilities are recognizing this need for parents to have a place to drop off mildly ill children on occasion.
Drop in care facilities can be found in established child care centers, recreation centers, in some home-based child care services, nursery schools, and some recreation centers like the YMCA/YWCA, as well as many churches. While these facilities accept occasional drop in children they do not usually accommodate ill children.
Some places offer sick care facilities, that is to say a place often in an hospital where a mildly sick child can spend the day. These facilities are not inexpensive but when a parent must be at work and has no other option, then cost become less relevant.
Another place to look for out of home childcare is the place where you work. Many employers, offer consortiums, or organized group daycare for children of employees. Some operate full time while other offer you to sign up for slots that can be used on a temporary basis. Check if there a sick room where a child can be supervised but not in with the other children.
